The Soul Affair 22nd August 2010

'Intelligent Jungle', psychedelic Stone's Throw madness, house music and , erm, Chicago...all human life was here. Plus Lou Bond's 'To The Establishment' - a bonkers 11 minutes that starts with a meditation on real-ness ("only realness is really real" etc), followed by a moan about having to go to the shops for his girlfriend's chapstick, followed by 6 minutes of singing in what might be Orkish (sadly he doesn't say 'Shazbat' at any point.) Insane and totally wonderful.

Amateur hour

My old work mucker Paul Southgate (or Polle van de Gash, if you prefer) runs the excellent Amateur Athletics night at the Social in London. He also has a blog with sporadic postings of his wonderfully wonky mixes and other musical ephemera. They really are excellent and well worth checking out. I mean, did you know Chubby Checker had done an amazing pysch-soul album? Me neither.

He very kindly asked me to contribute a mix at the end of last year and, of course, I was more than happy to put something together. He posted it up in April but – god knows how – I missed it and didn’t get round to thanking him for foisting it on his followers.

The link for it is below. I hope you enjoy this, and be sure to check out Polle’s stuff on there too. It really is top drawer.
